Security Council

Produced by the United Nations, this short film describes the role, functions, composition, and activities of the Security Council, within the context of the United Nations' overall structure.

The most important of the U.N. bodies, SECURITY COUNCIL follows a Council meeting at U.N. headquarters in New York, showing all the preparatory and surrounding activities it entails. The film reviews the history of the Security Council, and shows how the Council has acted in several cases, including Israel/Palestine, Korea, the Congo, and Zimbabwe, in its efforts to defuse threats to world peace.

An excellent film for beginning discussion and study of the role or this important and often controversial body.

"An actual meeting of the council is shown, and scenes are included of the only filming ever allowed in the small conference room next to the Sercurity Council chambers where groups meet for informal discussion and consultations... Good material on the purpose and function of the UN Security Council. Recommended."—Landers Film Reviews
