Born in Flames

A Film by Lizzie Borden

film still

Directed by Lizzie Borden (WORKING GIRLS), feminist classic BORN IN FLAMES is the futuristic tale of the turmoil that still brews years after a "peaceful" social revolution. Thwarted by a system which rejects its minorities, a group of women band together in an effort to gain control of the state owned media.

With humor and style, the film combines the many cadences of the women's movement - militant, moderate, hip hop rap, punk cool - to suggest the possibility of a unified voice.

"A comic fantasy of female rebellion... a funny, gutsy break in independent feminist filmmaking." - Ms. Magazine

"Black women, lesbians, leftists intellectuals, punkers, single mothers, the Women's Army, political militants, and spiritual new-lifers give the film a multi-voiced texture that springs from the real-life personas of the mostly non-professionals Borden recruited as actors." - Afterimage

"Guaranteed to spark fiery debate." - San Francisco Chronicle
