Part of the MOROCCO, BODY AND SOUL series of half hour films which present various musical genres being performed in the environments which fostered them, all the while giving viewers a window into the diverse components which comprise Moroccan society.

As one climbs high in the Atlas mountains, all signs of modern life fade away, leaving only the earth and sky and nothing in between. Water is the element around which the essential gestures of life fit together. Spontaneous or interpreted, the music expresses this primeval universe: women singing in high polyphonies, in "youyous" or "ritornelles," accompany every action. The flute and frame drum are the only instruments played by men, at nightfall, when villagers assemble to dance "adersi," which recalls the cosmic round dance.
